A BCWS helicopter hovers over the Jack Creek fire on September 7, 2022. UPDATE 7:30 p.m The Jack Creek Fire continues to burn out of control. The helicopters were grounded as darkness fell, but a crew of 10 BCWS firefighters are on the scene and will be working into the night. Fire intelligence officer Shaelee Stearns says two air tankers and several helicopters dropped water and retardant on the flames late afternoon and early evening. The latest estimate put the fire at 2 hectares. UPDATE 6:40 p.m The Jack Creek fire is estimated at 2 hectares in size and has been classified as out of control. BCWS says it is a visible surface fire with occasional candles and a moderate rate of spread (class 2-3). “Aircraft and helicopters are responding and crews are en route,” BCWS said on Twitter.

Photo: Flight Tracker Air traffic of firefighting aircraft over a new fire has begun over Glenrosa ORIGINAL 5:55 p.m BC Wildfire Service is responding to a new fire in the Peachland area. The fire is located approximately 9 kilometers north of the community in the area of the Okanagan Connector. Smoke is seen rising from the area and is visible from Kelowna and from Highway 97C. BCWS has sent air tankers and helicopters to try to put out the flames. Witnesses say a helicopter was already working on the fire at about 5:30 p.m. More to come…
