The sacking came as somewhat of a shock as the German had enjoyed a thrilling reign in the capital, leading Chelsea to Champions League glory just four months after arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2021. And he backed it up last season by overseeing Club World Cup success and a run to the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals. But after a dip in fortunes at the start of this campaign, the new owners have wielded the axe. Chelsea’s players will now be wondering what kind of manager club bosses they will be looking to bring in. And Express Sport takes a look at three players who could be set back by Tuchel’s departure and four stars who could benefit. Bad news for Aubameyang, Silva and Azpilicueta? Chelsea made a number of signings during the summer transfer window, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang putting pen to paper on a deal in west London on deadline day as he left Barcelona. Aubameyang has already proven he can cut it in the Premier League after enjoying a prolific four years at Arsenal. But Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was so desperate to get him out of the Emirates Stadium that he allowed the Gabon international to tear up his contract and leave for free in January. But with a new manager at the helm, there may be concerns about the player’s temperament. And he may not become the star man he thought he would be. Thiago Silva is also another player who could suffer under a new boss. The centre-back turns 38 later this month and his time at the top of the game is clearly limited. A new manager may want to build for the future right away and turn his attention to youth. And that could limit Silva’s playing time. A new boss could also decide to play with two central defenders instead of the three that Tuchel has tended to use. And that would mean more competition for places in the heart of the backline. Cesar Azpilicueta, who is no longer a first-choice player, would likely feature on fewer occasions. Good news for Gallagher, Pulisic, Ziyech, Broja? If a new manager changes the formation, he could decide to play three in midfield. This would provide a huge opportunity for Conor Gallagher, who enjoyed a productive loan spell at Crystal Palace last season. Gallagher could take over the No8 role under a new mentor and finally start his career at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, the likes of Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech could get their chance to shine under Tuchel’s successor. The duo have shown just how talented they are on the day, but have fallen out of favor with the German and struggled to garner starting spots. And Armando Broja could finally be thrust into the limelight to lead the front line when the west London giants appoint a new man to take the club forward. Broja did well during his temporary spell with Southampton last time out – and if the new manager doesn’t love Aubameyang, Broja could be in line for a string of starts where he’ll look to bag the goals .
