Lily’s dad, John, told the Daily Telegraph that he had lost his daughter’s last message to him. The high school student asked her father, “Dad, can I go out tonight?” John said: “The answer would be no, it was a school night but I never got the text.” He did not receive the message because he was in the hospital at the time. The four-seat Nissan Navara had six people inside when it crashed, police said. Edwards was found injured next to the wreckage on Tuesday night, before being taken to an ambulance on a stretcher and taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. He was released into the care of his mother on Wednesday morning and was arrested at 1.50pm that afternoon. Officers took him to the Narellan police station, where they said he was assisting with investigations. “After the man was released from hospital, he was arrested in Bargo and taken to Narellan Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving causing death – dangerous driving,” police said on Wednesday night. “The Bargo man was refused bail and will appear in Picton Local Court on Thursday. “As inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue, police are appealing for anyone with dash cam or social media footage to come forward.” Speaking to ABC, he said he “holds no grudge” against Edwards. “He’s going through hell,” he added. All were aged between 14 and 16 and attended Picton High School. On Wednesday, a devastated friend of two of the girls who were killed said she believed the tragedy could have been prevented. Ellie Mount told the ABC she played soccer with two of the girls and declined an invitation to “hang out” with them on the night of the fatal crash. “To think they texted me last night asking if I wanted to hang out with them,” he said. “I could have mom pick them up. I could have prevented it. A woman who arrived first at the scene said what she saw was “the worst of the worst”. The woman rushed to the scene of the accident after “we heard a car [allegedly] going fast, then a very loud noise.’ She arrived with her two teenage sons, who had both attended Picton High School and knew some of the kids involved. The woman, who trained as a nurse, said the force of the collision split the vehicle in half and the body of one of the victims was thrown onto the road. “I tried to do CPR but only one of them had a pulse,” he told Western Australia Today. “I couldn’t help it.” Jason Hogan from the police’s Metropolitan Traffic Investigation Unit said Edwards’ breath test at the scene was negative, but further test results were yet to be considered. “At this stage, we are exploring all lines of inquiry, but our preliminary investigations would indicate that speed is a possible factor in this crash,” he said. 9 The car was reportedly torn in half by the force of the crashCredit: PA
