The suspect has not yet been formally charged. “I applaud our Saint Paul officers’ diligent pursuit of those responsible for the nightmare we endured this weekend,” Mayor Melvin Carter wrote in a statement. “Thanks to their swift work, we can begin to heal and move forward.” Police say the shooting happened around 4:30 Sunday afternoon in the 900 block of Case Avenue East. Officials described it as “one of the most complex scenes we’ve investigated in a long time” because of the number of victims. Two others were taken to hospital. Police did not say how serious their injuries were. Police say the victims’ deaths mark the 25th, 26th and 27th homicides in St. Paul this year.
