(Ken Turner, CUPE Local 2099.) The union representing workers in the city of Mount Pearl – they have been on strike for the past ten weeks – is defending its right to picket outside councilors’ homes. Mount Pearl’s virtual council meeting was interrupted Monday when protesters with bull horns started shouting outside Councilor Isabelle Fry’s home. CUPE Local 2099 President Ken Turner says secondary picketing is a legal right. He says they’ve been on the picket line for ten weeks and “the council hasn’t been to town hall… they’re working from home.” He says if they are not willing to talk to the union, then the union will bring the matter to their homes, “where they work.”
