Here are all the times Queen Elizabeth II visited Toronto
“During her 70-year reign, the Queen’s sense of duty and dedication to public service has been second to none,” Tory said. “He traveled more than any other monarch and Canada was the country he visited most often. She even referred to Canada as her second home.”
Tory said while the Queen will be “deeply missed,” residents will be reminded that she will pass by landmarks across Toronto, including the Queen Elizabeth II Building and the Queen Elizabeth Theater at Exhibition Place.
He also noted that the city recently planted 70 trees in Rowntree Mills Park to mark its Platinum Jubilee, which will now serve as a “living tribute” to the long-time monarch.
“Today, as we mourn the death of the Queen, we are grateful for the long life she lived, dedicated to our service and to the service of the whole Commonwealth. We pray that he has now found eternal rest and peace,” Tory said.
Tory is not the only local official to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and remember her many visits to this part of the country.
On Thursday afternoon, Ontario Premier Doug Ford also delivered a statement on a pool camera from his Queen’s Park office, crediting the Queen with teaching us “the true meaning of selfless service.”
“Even with her many responsibilities, the Queen has always held a special place in her heart for Canada, having made 22 official visits to our shores throughout her life,” he said.
The City of Toronto announced that flags have been flown at half-mast on all city facilities, parks and ferries. The Toronto sign will also be lowered tonight in honor of the Queen.
