Annual major iOS releases are released after Apple’s September iPhone event. This year, Apple is launching iOS 16 to the public on September 12. Previous iOS release dates:

iOS 15: September 20, 2021 (after the September 14 event) iOS 14: September 16, 2020 (after the September 15 event) iOS 13: September 19, 2019 (after the September 10 event) iOS 12: September 17, 2018 (after the September 12 event) iOS 11: September 19, 2017 (after the September 12 event)

When is iOS 16 coming out?

iOS 15 arrived at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET iOS 14 arrived at 1 p.m. PT / 4 p.m. ET Interestingly, this was an outlier, as Apple released the public release just one day after its iPhone 12 event iOS 13 arrived at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET iOS 12 arrived at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET iOS 11 arrived at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET

Like last year, Apple launches its new software the week after the iPhone event. In the past five years, there has only been one time that an iOS update wasn’t released at 10am. PT. iPadOS 16 release date?

This year, Apple has already confirmed that iPadOS 16 will not be released at the same time as the new iPhone software. With Stage Manager and other new features, Apple says it’s “an especially big year for iPadOS. As its own platform with features designed specifically for iPad, we have the flexibility to deliver iPadOS with its own schedule.
