Some sporting events in Northern Ireland have been postponed as a mark of respect following the Queen’s death. Friday’s two Irish Premiership games between Cliftonville and Glentoran and Larne v Dungannon Swifts are both away. The Football League of Northern Ireland said it would clarify on Friday whether Saturday’s games would go ahead. The Ulster rugby friendly in Glasgow on Friday is off, as are all of this weekend’s Ulster rugby and hockey matches. The Irish Rugby Football Union and Irish Horse Racing joined other sporting bodies in expressing sadness at the Queen’s death. “The IRFU extends our condolences to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” it said in a tweet. “Our condolences go out to our friends in the Domestic Unions and their supporters.” The Horse Racing Ireland tribute spoke of the Queen’s “love of racing”, which included wins as owner in four of the five English classics, with only the Derby eluding her. Organizers of this weekend’s Mid Antrim 150 motorcycle meeting in Clough said they were “seeking urgent advice from local authorities” before deciding whether Friday and Saturday’s event can go ahead. “We know we have riders, teams and spectators traveling from far and wide and also people planning to attend this weekend,” said a statement from the Mid Antrim club on Thursday night. “We have a meeting scheduled in the morning with officials and organizers, the decision will be made then and communicated immediately.”
